[theqoo] JAPANESE TOP ACTORS' APPEARANCE FEES CAN'T BE REAL

Original tweet:
'Queen of Tears' Kim Soohyun, appearance fee is 300 million won (205K USD) per episode, not 800 million (550K USD).. Lower than his previous work

QRT:
When you see stuff like this, it really feels like Korean celebrities get paid way too much per episode...
In 2022, Oguri Shun reportedly got 500,000 yen per episode (about 5 million won (3.5K USD)) for an NHK historical drama.
Aragaki Yui got 300,000 yen (2K USD), and Suda Masaki got 200,000 yen (1.3K USD)..

Our country is way too generous towards celebrities, we need to be like Japan

1. That's honestly insane. Even if the total "per episode" cost of the entire drama was in the hundred million won range, that would still be too much, but now this number is per actor, per episode, in the hundreds of millions? Meanwhile, the staff are working for low pay and being told to rely on 'passion.' How does it make any sense that only the celebrities take home that much?

2. Being paid hundreds of million per episode is not normal

3. Sure, Japan pays less, but it's still true that appearance fees in Korea are excessive. Top celebrities take the lion's share while the production staff are left with scraps. That's not a healthy system. They're treated like royalty, coddled even when they mess up, it's basically a paradise for celebrities here. And yet, some clueless people ignore the real issue and just fixate on Japan and freak out..

4. It’s true that Korean actors’ appearance fees are excessive, but it’s hard to compare directly with Japan since their drama production environment is completely different from ours. Still, the fact that they’re getting paid hundreds of millions per episode is just too much. They deserve to be beaten up

5. Our actors are expensive, but male actors are especially bad. Actresses can have so much experience but they will always fall short from male actors

6. Our country is f*cked and abnormal

7. Take care of the staff a bit

8. It's a fact that our country is way too excessive. They need to pay the staff better. All the money goes to celebrities

9. Even a few hundreds of thousands of won per episode is a lot, going in the hundreds of millions is just oba

10. Korea is honestly crossing the line
