[theqoo] "UNDER 15" 'IF THE SHOW DOESN'T HAIR, THE CONTESTANTS WILL BE EVEN MORE HURT' TEARFUL APPEAL

On the afternoon of the 25th, an emergency production briefing for MBN’s new audition program Under 15 was held at the Stanford Hotel Seoul, located in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

During the briefing, a question was raised about whether Under 15 would air as planned, and co-CEO Hwang In-young was seen in tears. Following Hwang’s comments, Director Yong Seok-in added, "The participants are also deeply hurt by the distortion," and continued, "It's very unfortunate. If the program doesn't air, that should not happen, and the impact on the children and their parents will be very significant."

[...]

She continued, "We discussed this with MBN, and MBN feels the responsibility as the platform and has been reviewing the matter," and explained, "For the first episode, we had an internal screening with the review team and the broadcasting station, and we also sent the video to the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) and the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), and there were no issues after internal review."

She then emphasized, "If anyone wants to protest, they can come to our company and speak to us," and added, "MBN is not responsible for this part."

Meanwhile, Under 15 is a global, first-of-its-kind K-pop talent search and generational change audition for those under 15 years old. In the teaser video released earlier, a teenage participant was seen performing in revealing clothing, and their profile, along with a barcode design, was shared on social media. This led to concerns among netizens and various sectors of society about the commerc**lization of children.

In response, MBN stated on the 21st, "We take the concerns from all sectors of society regarding the new program Under 15 very seriously," and added, "MBN will fully review the details of the program and its airing status, and will announce its stance soon."

In the meantime, the production team of Under 15 issued a statement on the same day, saying, "Under 15 participants are all precious talents who have applied with their consent and with the approval of their guardians," and emphasized, "The production team has strictly followed the guidelines to protect the minor participants during filming."

1. The moms and dads who sent their kids there should wake up and reflect

2. Why is she crying....? I honestly can't understand

3. It's for the best of the kids, they'll be "hurt" right now, but they should debut in the future

4. They'll be even more hurt after getting all the SH once the show airs. How can you be so wrong towards kids?

5. It's because they want to make back the production fee. Why are they framing it as the contestants being hurt?

6. This is all because of the parents' greed

7. Scrap the show

8. Are they f*cking joking?

9. They don't know what the issue is and is resorting to emotional appeal

10. It's 100x better for them to go back to school and prepare becoming an idol instead. They're way too young, seriously they need to think about the lives of those kids at their age
