[theqoo] [EXCLUSIVE] IST'S LIES ABOUT THE BOYZ' TRADEMARK... 3 UNREASONABLE DEMANDS FOR A LIFETIME OF SHAME

IST Entertainment previously stated that they had given THE BOYZ‘s full rights to use the trademark to the group’s name free of charge. This came after One Hundred‘s claims that they were in a trademark dispute with the group’s soon-to-be former company.

Soon after, 10Asia reported that they had obtained the original copy of IST Entertainment’s requests towards One Hundred. 10Asia claimed that these requests would make IST Entertainment the benefactor of profits even after THE BOYZ leaves the company. IST Entertainment allegedly agreed to allowing THE BOYZ to use all 56 trademarks related to the group for free if they signed a contract that had three clauses to it. This contract would only be valid if all eleven members of THE BOYZ agreed to work together as THE BOYZ, and it would be extended automatically every year if they stuck to the clauses. The contract would be void at any time if they failed to upkeep the clauses.

The clauses are:

1. Profits from previous albums and contents

Even when THE BOYZ leaves the company, there will be profits generated from past contents released. As profits of old content are increasingly downwards-sloping, most entertainment companies pay out the group for two years flat, rather than continuing to give a pay out. IST Entertainment suggested that THE BOYZ be paid a year instead, since this area was not included in their previous exclusive contract. Any profits after the year would solely belong to IST Entertainment.

2. Ban on remasters and remakes

IST requested to permanently ban any act of monetizing and selling THE BOYZ sound sources and contents as owned in master rights by IST Entertainment. Even though some members are credited for the songwriting or lyrics writing of some of their songs, IST Entertainment owns the masters. Therefore, the new agency and the members cannot profit from the song unless they remake or remaster the song.

3. Selling of stock

IST Entertainment asked for permission to sell their inventory of THE BOYZ’ products. Usually, merchandise are disposed of when the artists terminate the contract. This can affect One Hundred and THE BOYZ as IST Entertainment selling past inventory, possibly at a discounted price, could end up competing with One Hundred’s merchandise. IST Entertainment allegedly possesses around a few ten ok in inventory.

One Hundred has yet to respond to the alleged demands.

3. What is the issue here?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Obviously, the company who released the digital songs will own the master rights. Just how much effort do you have to put into this article to make it seem like it's an issue..

5. No matter how you look at it, this seems like a reasonable request. There's no loss for the members either. So what exactly is that company hoping for? At this point, it's basically letting them go on really good terms. If they can't accept this and end up losing THE BOYZ name, it's going to cause absolute chaos, can they even handle that?
