The Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 12 sentenced A (40) to 2 years in prison, with a 3-year probation, and ordered 120 hours of community service on the 20th, for fraud (under the Specific Crime Aggravated Punishment Act).
A, who worked as a team leader at the famous entertainment company Big Hit Music, was indicted for deceiving the victim into thinking he would run a business for BTS member's merch at the company’s headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul, in June of last year. He swindled a total of 576 million won over 17 occasions.
A deceived the victim by claiming, "BTS members are doing solo activities before going to the military, and they are receiving investments for goods to be given to fans." He promised that if the victim lent him money, he would repay both the principal and profits.
The defendant used the investment money to cover his debts.
The court stated, "Although A used his position as a team leader at a famous entertainment company to fraudulently collect a large sum of money under the pretense of business investment, considering that he repaid more than the victim’s original investment of over 600 million won, the sentence of probation was given."
