The recipient of this year's Korean Film Contribution Award is the late Lee Sun-kyun, who passed away last year. The Busan International Film Festival will hold a special program titled 'Beautiful Person, Lee Sun-kyun,' screening six of his notable works, including 'My Mister' and 'Parasite,' along with a special talk.
During the opening ceremony, a video was shown featuring quotes from the late actor's interviews, including, 'If someone asks why I act, I would say it's because it makes me reflect on myself,' and 'I want to continue acting as I do now. I want to be an actor who steadily does well.' Fellow actors, including Song Joong-ki, were seen shedding tears while watching.
Park Bo-young said, 'Like the final farewell in 'My Mister,' I hope he has now found peace,' while Ahn Jae-hong stated, 'In memory of the late Lee Sun-kyun, we are screening six of his representative works. I hope this becomes a meaningful time to honor him. We will ensure that the Korean Film Contribution Award is delivered to his family.'
This year's Asia Film Awards will be presented to director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who will showcase two new films, 'The Snake's Path' and 'Cloud,' at this year's Busan International Film Festival.
Meanwhile, the 29th Busan International Film Festival will take place from October 2 to 11."
