[theqoo] MISS KOREA'S REP "MENTIONING DF WAS OUR MISTAKE... WE WANTED TO HEAR THEIR THOUGHTS ABOUT AI" APOLOGY

(Context: here)
"Q: If I look more attractive in a DF video, how can you bridge the gap between the real you and the fake version?"

"This is Global E&B, the organizer of the Miss Korea Pageant.

During the recording of the main round of the 68th Miss Korea Pageant 2014, which was held at COEX Auditorium in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 24th of this month, one of the Q&As for the final 15 contestants was, “If I look more attractive in a DF video, how can you bridge the gap between the real you and the fake version?”

In this question, the term “DF video” was meant to refer to “videos that utilize AI technology to recreate real-life images,” and the question asked for thoughts on the difference between the digital image created by technology and the real person.

However, given the harm that has been caused by illegal videos using 'DFs', it was clearly an error on our part to use the word 'deepfake'. While the question was posed to get thoughts on the widespread use of AI virtualization in movies, advertising, education, and more, it should have been worded much more carefully given the current abuse of “DFs” in s*xualized videos.

We sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been inconvenienced by this, including our contestants.

We will continue to listen to and consider your thoughts and stories as we run the pageant."

1. We need to get rid of Miss Korea

2. Women... must you participate to this kind of competition..

3. Issues with DFs are always on the news nowadays and seeing them put a question like this shows just how brainless they are

4. Why would they insinuate that they look more "attractive" on DFs? That's so harmful

5. The solution is to get rid of these idiotic competitions

6. This is the reality. No matter how much people cry about getting rid of it, nobody cares

7. Even if they called it "AI", it doesn't change the fact that they are rotten. F*ck, that's what they call an "explanation"?

8. Even so, they apologized properly

9. Trash

10. This clarification doesn't clarify anything
