[instiz] MOST 2ND GENERATION KOREAN WOMEN'S SPOUSES AREN'T KOREAN

■ Second-Generation Korean Americans: 61.8% Marrying Non-Asian Men

A study on the marriage patterns of second-generation Korean Americans conducted by Professor Min Byung-gap from Queens College and Professor Kim Chi-gon from Wright State University, titled “Intergenerational Differences in Marital Patterns among Korean Americans,” clearly shows that second-generation Korean Americans are much more likely to marry outside their race than their Korean counterparts.

In particular, the intermarriage rate for second-generation Korean American women is nearly twice as high as their marriage rate to Korean men. This is why Korean parents with daughters find it difficult to expect a Korean son-in-law.

According to the report, from 2007 to 2011, 61.3% of second-generation Korean American women who married chose non-Korean men, while only 38.7% married Korean men.

■ Son-in-Law Preference: White (40.6%) > Korean (38.7%) > Asian (11%) > Black (6%)

When looking at the racial backgrounds of the husbands chosen by second-generation Korean American women, the proportion marrying white men was higher than those marrying Korean men. The distribution among the racial groups of husbands shows that Korean men are lagging behind white men.

According to the report, 40.6% of second-generation Korean American women married white men, while 38.7% married Korean men, placing them second. Following this, the rate of marriage to other Asian men, such as Filipino or Chinese, was 11%. Additionally, 6% of second-generation Korean American women, like Choi Jong-hyun's daughter, married Black men.

■ Daughters-in-Law: Still Over Half are Korean Women

While the rate at which second-generation Korean American women are marrying non-Korean men is significantly higher, second-generation Korean American men still have a higher marriage rate with Korean women. However, this rate is just over half, indicating that it may not be long before the proportion of those marrying non-Korean women exceeds half.

1. Excellent choice, outstanding decisions

2. I've seen many Korean men from abroad come to Korea looking for brides. They used to entice me, a college student at the time, by saying they could help me with permanent residency or citizenship;;

3. It's because Korean men lack competencies, charms and capabilities while pushing their ridiculous patriarchy;; if they don't fix this in the future, it'll just get worse

4. Meanwhile Korean men still come back to Korea to look for wives

5. If I were a Korean American, I wouldn’t date someone of the same ethnicity either. It’s not that I wouldn’t date Koreans, but I wouldn’t date anyone Asian ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ If you're going all the way to the U.S., you should make better choices, right? Good job, Korean women!

6. Obviously ㅋㅋ

7. Even while living in the U.S., many people naturally end up surrounding themselves primarily with other Asians from their school days. Yet, if they end up marrying a white person, there must be a reason for that, right?ㅋㅋ It means they’re fine with Korean men as friends or acquaintances, but not as husbands or the fathers of their childrenㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

8. I wouldn't date Koreans either so why would they

9. I'm jealous...

10. Duh, not like Asian men have anything marketable
