Singer Kang Daniel mentioned the possibility of a Wanna One reunion. He is returning with a new album after a year and three months. With his fifth mini-album "ACT," which carries the meaning of a fresh start, Kang Daniel is making his long-awaited return to the music scene. On the afternoon of the 23rd, before the album's release, he shared various stories related to his comeback during an interview held at COEX Artium in Seoul.
Regarding this comeback, Kang Daniel expressed, "It feels like the third act of my life is opening." He explained, "If I were to express my life as a play, the first act would be when I started dancing, the second act, as everyone knows, was when I participated in Mnet's 'Produce 101 Season 2', and it feels like the third act has just begun."
Referring to his journey as the 'acts' of a play, Kang Daniel stated, "I don’t know how many acts my life will have. However, looking back, I feel that the first act started unintentionally. In fact, dancing wasn’t my own choice. It seems like a strange fate that a student who didn’t study and didn’t listen met a new homeroom teacher and was forced into the breakdancing crew. That was an unintentional beginning." He added, "I still keep in touch with my former homeroom teacher."
Kang Daniel referred to his time in Wanna One as the 'second act.' He recalled the new experiences he gained through 'Produce 101' and said, "I received love that I never imagined or hoped for."
Defining the third act as "the path I'm currently walking," Kang Daniel said, "The days I've gone through are precious. I sometimes think that I became successful too suddenly. I've often felt lucky. Even now, there are many times when I’m astonished. Although I’ve always felt grateful, sometimes it was so sudden that I couldn't figure out the extent of my gratitude." He expressed, "Recently, I feel that gratitude again. It’s because of those times that I am who I am now, and those experiences became a stepping stone, allowing me to make the music I want to create now."
Kang Daniel also spoke candidly about Wanna One. When asked if he keeps in touch with the members, he replied, "Of course, we stay in touch. Recently, I appeared on a YouTube channel run by Daehwi because we naturally got in contact."
Regarding the possibility of a Wanna One reunion, he stated, "I’ve talked about this before, and it’s true that it’s not physically easy. But we have gathered for special performances in the past, like at the 'MAMA' awards. I think I’m open to that possibility anytime."
Kang Daniel received immense love during his time with Wanna One, often called the 'Nation’s Center.' He admitted that he still doesn't fully understand why fans love him, but he acknowledged that he is where he is thanks to his fandom, FLOWD (Kang Daniel’s fan club), and expressed his desire to remain a supportive artist for his fans in the future.
He shared, "I wonder if I appear to be someone whom fans want to support. The most unfortunate person is someone who has so much luck in life that they are anxious not knowing when it will end, and I think I might have been that way. I was so lucky during my Wanna One days that I couldn’t enjoy or savor it. I think I felt that I never knew when interest and love would fade."
Kang Daniel honestly stated, "Maybe I’m not the ultimate bias for fans anymore. But my true feelings are that I want to remain an artist whom fans continue to support, even if I'm not their ultimate bias. Thankfully, due to the support of fans who have loved me until now, I feel like I’ll never lose my ambition musically." He smiled.
