It has been reported that the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of Suga (real name Min Yoongi, 31, pictured), a member of the group BTS, was above 0.2%—a level that increases the severity of sentencing—when he was caught riding an electric scooter under the influence.

According to a comprehensive report from Dong-A Ilbo on the 9th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul determined that Suga’s BAC was 0.227% when he was charged with drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act on the 6th. It was reported that Suga stated he had “drank a beer and then drove for a short while.”

Under current law, if a person is caught driving an electric scooter with a BAC between 0.08% and 0.2%, they could face imprisonment for 1 to 2 years or a fine ranging from 5 million to 10 million won. Conversely, if the BAC is 0.2% or higher, the penalties are imprisonment for 2 to 5 years or a fine of 10 million to 20 million won.

According to the police, no administrative action regarding license cancellation has yet been taken against Suga. If the BAC is 0.08% or higher when caught driving under the influence, the driver’s license is typically revoked, and they cannot reapply for it for a year.
