[theqoo] "I WENT TO HIM BECAUSE HE WAS FAMOUS"... DAUGHTER DIES AFTER 17 DAYS OF HOSPITALIZATION
Report Received: Patient Dies 17 Days After Admission to Hospital Run by Famous Psychiatrist
A report has emerged that a patient died 17 days after being admitted to a hospital run by a renowned psychiatrist.
CCTV footage shows hospital staff restraining the patient’s hands and feet even though the patient complained of stomach pain. The footage also shows the patient’s abdomen swelling and nosebleed, with no significant action taken by the staff.
In the psychiatric ward’s single room, a woman clutching her stomach pleads to be let out.
After knocking on the door late into the night, the nurse and caregiver gave the woman medication and then restrained her to the bed.
Although the restraints were removed an hour later when she was bleeding from the nose and gasping for breath, she was still not given any additional treatment and was left in the room.
On May 27th, a 33-year-old woman named Park, who was admitted to the psychiatric hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, operated by the famous psychiatrist Dr. A, died after 17 days of treatment for an addiction to a diet pill containing narcotic substances.
[Family of the deceased: We came here intentionally because it is run by a famous psychiatrist and they talked about their addiction program.]
The cause of death is suspected to be ‘intestinal obstruction.’
Although the patient’s abdomen was severely swollen compared to when she was admitted, the family claims that they did not receive any consultation from the hospital’s internal medicine specialist or recommendations for treatment at other hospitals.
[Family of the deceased: The abdomen was obviously abnormal, but instead of taking her to the hospital, she was kept in the single room and only given medication until she died.]
The hospital explained that the patient was a chronic constipation sufferer and did not continuously complain of abdominal pain, making it difficult to suspect an intestinal obstruction.
The CCTV footage also captured the hospital's emergency response actions.
After confirming that the woman had lost consciousness, staff checked her pulse and massaged her hands and feet before attempting CPR five minutes later.
When the patient did not regain consciousness, they used a defibrillator about 20 minutes later.
The hospital stated that the on-duty physician was on standby on the day of the incident and that they regularly conduct training on emergency responses such as CPR, asserting that there was no issue with their response at that time.
[Hospital representative: We will cooperate fully with the investigation, and we are deeply distressed that such an accident occurred.]
The police, who received a complaint from the family, have charged the hospital’s representative Dr. A and staff with violations of medical laws and have initiated an investigation.
