[theqoo] GOO JUNHOE WHO RELEASED A SOLO ALBUM.... THE RESULT IS A SHARP "BLANK"

The results made me feel 'blank'.

On March 3rd, just 9 years after his debut, iKON's Goo Junhoe released his first solo album 'Blank' (t/n: Korean title). Despite participating in lyric-writing and composition across rock, ballad, and medium-tempo tracks to pursue a diverse album, the public response was so cold that even receiving evaluations was difficult. According to the Circle Chart, the album sold 4,657 copies, marking a dismal performance at 42nd place in the 27th week.

Perhaps his digital performance was stronger during his iKON days. One of the double title tracks, 'Alone', has only 14,000 cumulative listeners, while 'Hope' has 4,200. The 'Alone' music video on global platform YouTube hasn't even reached 200,000 views after ten days. Despite hopeful expectations, the reality hit with numbers that shut one's mouth. Even Goo Junhoe himself knows well that solo activities are not easy.

Appearing on 'Cultwo Show', he responded to a question about settling accounts alone, saying, "To be blunt, solo activities have less impact than group activities, so I find more meaning in doing what I wanted to do." He carefully expressed that the low results were disappointing. This is his first solo album released domestically, but his promotions were lacking. Notable appearances include Mnet's 'M Countdown', MBC's 'Song Stealer', and SBS Power FM's 'Escape Cultwo Show'. Despite concurrent acting activities, things are not going smoothly. In spring, he appeared in the movie 'Again 1997' with Jo Byeong-gyu amidst 'school violence controversy', but the audience numbered just 10,000. His solo activities are practically focusing on Japan, holding fan meetings in Osaka on the 13th and 14th. Goo Junhoe is a 'Daesang singer'. During his iKON days, 'Love Scenario' was praised as the best song of 2018. However, the solo debut of such a 'daesang singer' left only regrettable results.
