Everyone, do I need to let my friend know why I cut ties with them?
I've been super close with them ever since high school and I recently broke ties with them
They didn't know why I ended the friendship, so they kept trying to contact me for a week.
I ignored their calls, texts, and DMs
I didn't update my Instagram so, they ended up reporting me to the police, thinking something must have happened to me ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
It just made things worse. Yesterday, I received a long text from that old friend saying that if I'm angry about something, I should talk about it verbally because that's proper etiquette. But if I cut off ties, do I need to explain why? I'm curious about your opinions!"
Comment1: That's unnecessary... You won't see them anymore, so it's just exhausting. But it seems like your personalities are different to start with
Comment2: But why did you break ties with them? If I were the friend, I'd be hurt
1. You would tell them
2. You wouldn't
original post: here
1. Do you not know what "break ties" mean?
2. So unnecessary... I'm quite impressed the friend is even asking
3. Why must they? I'd hate to interact with them anymore
4. Why must they? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ If you told them the reason, then they'd go around acting like the victim, it's so obvious ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
5. You already broke ties, why would you still contact them...? But why is that person reporting you to the police because you're not answering them..???
6. So unnecessary
7. #1, they were still a friend at the end of the day, so of course you should've said something. The people who are saying #2, it's probably because you weren't even friends to start with
8. #1, I'd be hurt if someone broke ties without a reason with me
9. #1 That's just avoidance. Even if you cut ties, you need to put a period of "breaking ties". If you're gradually drifting apart, you wouldn't call it cutting ties. What you're doing is just ghosting
10. #1 if you're so tired of them reaching out, why not just tell them? It feels like you're avoiding
