Police in Minamikyushu City, Kagoshima Prefecture, have arrested a 21-year-old nursery teacher on suspicion of attempted m**der after she slashed a 2-year-old boy's neck.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. Friday at the nursery, Kyodo News reported. Another person noticed the boy's neck bleeding and called 119.

At first, it was unclear whether it was a crime or an accident, but after medical attention was sought, the police were notified.

Police said the suspect, Natsuki Sasayama, has admitted to the allegation and quoted her as saying "I did it but there was no intent to k*ll."

Police said doctors told them the boy's injuries will take about a month to heal.
