Hello readers, this might seem like a stupid problem for a lot of you, but it's been something that's been bothering since I was a child.
I'm a wasian born and raised in a tropical country where the beauty standard is to be golden tanned. I'm the palest person in my family, mostly because I'm the only one who enjoys being pale/hates tanning and I've been told since I was very young that I had to tan, that my pasty legs were ugly and that I looked like a ghost. I've heard that both from family, classmates, and even strangers so when I got into kpop I was positively surprised by all the paleness appreciation but it didn't take long to see how that aspect was so criticized.
I think darker skin tones are beautiful, liking paleness is just my preference. Is it so bad to want to be pale and putting effort to keep being this way? I've been accused of being racist before and that's really not the case at all.
