Recently, various drugs have become a social problem as they are spread secretly even in Korea, but 18 people, including two Koreans, who distributed drugs in Vietnam were sentenced to death.
According to VN Express, a local media outlet, on the 12th, the Ho Chi Minh Family and Juvenile Court the previous day sentenced a total of 18 people to death, including two Koreans, including former police officers A and B, a Chinese C and a Vietnamese.
They were indicted on charges of distributing a total of 216 kg of drugs.
A, who was dismissed for violating regulations while working as a police officer in Korea, has been imprisoned in Korea six times for violating immigration laws over a period of 16 years since 2000.
After settling in Vietnam in 2019, he established and operated a business that exported granite to Korea. In early 2020, he met C, a Chinese man, and began distributing drugs.
He also called in B, whom he met in a Korean prison, and participated in the crime with his lover.
They were arrested by public security on the spot in July 2020 after hiding drugs in granite plates to be shipped to Korea at Ket Lai Port.
During the arrest, public security confiscated about 40 plastic bags containing methamphetamine and other substances.
As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that they imported drugs from Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City, distributing most of the quantity locally and sending some to Korea.
Vietnam is a country that takes strong measures against drug crimes.
If you are caught bringing in drugs, you will be sentenced to more than two years in prison. In particular, if you are caught possessing or smuggling more than 600g of heroin or more than 2.5kg of methamphetamine, you will be subject to the death penalty.
Also, if you are caught manufacturing or distributing more than 100g of heroin or 300g of other illegal drugs, you will be subject to the same punishment.
Last year, more than 100 people were sentenced to death in Vietnam for drug crimes.
