[theqoo] MAMAMOO HWASA, 'INDECENCY CONTROVERSY' ACCUSED FOR OBSCENITY

A student parents’ association expressed outrage at the controversial university festival performance of MAMAMOO Hwasa.

Shin Min Hyang, the representative of the Parents’ Association for the Protection of Students’ Human Rights, stated on July 10th that they have filed a legal complaint against Hwasa for performing obscene acts on stage.

“Hwasa’s scandalous performance was not only watched by students but also by parents and the general public, which caused discomfort to a number of people“, they stated.

Shin Min Hyang added, “While watching Hwasa’s videos during the legal complaint process, I felt constant embarrassment.”

She continued, “Hwasa engaged in unnecessary choreography on a public stage, not even in a private concert venue. I am deeply concerned that young people watching the explicit performance presented by Hwasa might imitate her action. This goes beyond the boundaries of freedom of expression.“

She emphasized, “Especially, despite Hwasa packaging her statement as if she is being inundated with malicious comments, she did not show any signs of reflection even though this is not her first scandal. If she herself has been hurt, she should not inflict the same pain on others. Her actions are unacceptable.”

Shin Min Hyang continued, “Throughout the legal complaint process, we thoroughly conducted legal consultations with a law firm. The investigating agency also recognized the seriousness of the case regarding Hwasa. We expect a thorough investigation.“

On June 22nd, the Parents’ Association for the Protection of Students’ Human Rights submitted a legal complaint to the police against Hwasa for performing obscenity. The background of the complaint is that Hwasa’s performance at Sungkyunkwan University on May 12th caused discomfort to the viewers.

During Hwasa’s performance, which was part of the filming for tvN’s variety show ‘Dancing Queens on the Road,’ she performed the song “Don’t” in addition to MAMAMOO’s hit songs.

On this stage, Hwasa performed choreography in which she spread her legs and licked her finger before wiping a sensitive part of her body.

This sparked debates, with some arguing that it was too provocative, while others interpreted it as a bold performance and defended it as a stage for adults to watch, so there is no problem with it.

Recently, Hwasa signed an exclusive contract with P NATION, the entertainment company founded by Psy. She has also been involved in dating rumors with a non-celebrity businessman.

Regarding the recent complaint, P NATION stated, “We are aware that the police are currently reviewing the case.”
